Conceal Carrying Weapon in the “Masked” Times: To Do Or Not To

These are some unprecedented and strange times. What we were expecting to be gone by the end of 2020 only feels like rewinding its reel in 2021. Amidst the pandemic chaos, another question that has been troubling lawful concealed weapon permit holders whether they have the freedom to carry a weapon or not in public.

This concern slowly gained impetus to become a public discussion forum with a Facebook post (can be regarded as a meme). This was shared by a celebrity- rapper King chip showing a fictional communication between Keanu Reeves and Kevin Hart. In the post, Keanu is shown to be traveling the tube without a mask on. Hart goes up to him and says that he needs to use one. This is cut by a crisp response from Reeves end saying that he can’t as he will be committing a class (4) felony by violating section 24-1-(a)-(9).  This also caused a stir among many professionals providing concealed carry courses in Louisiana regarding the update.

So, What’s The Truth?

Coming straight away to the point, there is no federal law banning carrying concealed weaponry while wearing a mask. However, this applies only to those who have a legal permit and are lawfully carrying a concealed weaponry. This is an official statement made by the head of the union county sheriff’s North Carolina office, Tony Underwood.

Initially, the state of Louisiana had made it legal to carry weaponry openly, even for those who do not have a permit. People could legally own a weapon without even having to register for any Louisiana concealed carry class. After considering the ill consequences that may come with the decision, the lawmakers have yet again decided to introduce changes into the legislature and make it necessary to undergo proper screening for more responsible and safety-conscious choice makers.
